Spin the oil pump shaft to pump up the lifters. 5. WebJul 18, 2024 · Put the distributor in, fire it up, no oil to top period. Dry as a bone. Put primer back in, same thing, some squirt some don't. Tried 2 different brands of lifters, same thing . Lifter bores are a little worn- some have .0035-.004 clearance at the bottom. Most have .0025-.003. Tried different distributors, shimming them, etc., no improvement.

By not pumping up do you mean the lifter will not attain nor hold the lash setting; or that it doesn't feed oil to the push rod? These are two different causes. If it won't establish or hold the lash setting that's an issue with the check valve in the bottom of the plunger.
