WebThe Hiawatha Belt is a wampum belt made of cylindrically shaped purple and white shell beads. It represents the unification of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca Nations into a peace league called the Haudenosaunee. The belt is not worn. It is read from the right to left or east to west. The Great Law of Peace is presented as part of a narrative noting laws and ceremonies to be performed at prescribed times.
