WebCubbit promises to be a free cloud solution with lower greenhous gas emissions and higher security than datacenter solutions like dropbox. The basic idea is neat and I support all kinds ‘grassroots’ movements on data storage, but this project makes me mad because of its clearly misleading claims. IT IS A SCAM! Webcubbit.io kickstarted something like a year ago and now they’re selling their cubbit boxes on indiegogo (ooooh watchout, prices will go up in 4 days 😱). They claim that with a one-time payment you’re getting lifetime free cloudstorage that on top of it is completely secure (no one but you can access the data), fast and 10x greener than other cloud hosting solutions.
